• What is graded manga?

  Graded manga is a professionally inspected, sealed, and rated manga volume, slabbed in a tamper-evident acrylic case by Beckett (BGS). The grading company assigns a numeric grade from 1.0 to 10.0 based on the book's condition (corners, spine, page quality, surface, and overall preservation), authenticates the print run, and seals the book inside a protective holder forever. Graded slabs are the standard for serious manga collectors because the grade is independently verified and the book is protected from any further wear.

• Is graded manga worth more than raw manga?

  For key issues and high-grade copies, yes, sometimes by 5 to 10 times. A Japanese One Piece Vol. 1 1st print in BGS 9.4 can trade for multiples of the raw equivalent, because the grade certifies the condition is genuinely top-tier (not just "looks new"). For mid-series volumes, common condition tiers, or books worth under about $100 raw, grading costs more than it adds. • Who grades manga right now?

  BGS (Beckett Grading Services) is the only third-party grader actively running an at-scale manga grading program today. CGC is the long-established standard for American comics, and CBCS is the smaller of the legacy comic graders, but for manga specifically the entire serious collector market trades in BGS slabs. That is where the buyer pool, the population data, and the price discovery all sit. If you are buying or submitting in 2026, BGS is the practical answer.

• Where can I see real graded manga prices?

• How do I buy authentic graded manga online?

  Stick to verified collectibles sellers that disclose the cert number, show the BGS label clearly in the photos, and ship in protective packaging. Avoid "graded" listings from unbranded marketplace sellers where the case looks generic or the cert number isn't shown, because counterfeit slabs do exist, especially for high-value One Piece, Naruto, and Demon Slayer keys.
